James began his drumming career in the late 1980s in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing with an artist formerly of Wild Cherry (“Play That Funky Music”). The pop/funk project served as his launchpad into professional music, leading to multiple records and an active live performance schedule. He eventually relocated to Los Angeles to pursue larger opportunities, joining the ranks of drummers auditioning for major artists and national tours.

After placing 2nd in the semi-finals of the Guitar Center Drum Off, James caught the attention of judge Joe Hibbs of Tama Drums. Hibbs personally promised to connect him with high-profile gigs, and soon after, James returned home to a message on his answering machine from Steve Perry of Journey. That experience led to more opportunities with bands such as Suicidal Tendencies and The Cult. However, during this pivotal moment, James had recently put his faith in Jesus Christ. Feeling a strong conviction, he turned down several offers, believing they no longer aligned with his calling and redirected his focus toward the Christian music ministry.

From that point forward, James committed his talents to the church, where he formed deep friendships and created some of the most meaningful music of his career. His journey has included studio work, live performances, and international touring, always with the goal of honoring Jesus Christ through his craft.

After several years working and playing in Nashville, TN, James is now based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, continuing to perform, record, and teach.
